Navajo Lake - Southwest ColoradoIncludes Arboles and Navajo Dam
Navajo Lake is Colorado's answer to Lake Powell. This reservoir extends for 35 miles south into New Mexico. The reservoir contains both warm and cold water species. Fish for record-size northern pike, rainbow trout, kokanee salmon, large-mouth bass and catfish without crowds. To fish the Colorado side you need a Colorado Fishing License. Explore three major rivers and sail or water ski on open waters. There is a boat ramp and marina.
Take advantage of the opportunity to see wildlife such as foxes, deer, grouse and turkeys in the midst of one of Colorado's most historic and scenic areas. See interesting artifacts of the Anasazi Indians at the Visitor Center in a setting rich in local history. Navajo Lake has miles of outstanding areas to hike along the San Juan and Piedra Rivers. Mountain bikes are permitted in the park, and cyclists enjoy the unique beauty of the area. Horseback riding is not permitted. Directions - Take US Highway 160 west from Pagosa Springs about 17 miles, then turn southwest onto Colorado 151 for 18 miles to Arboles. Turn left again onto County Road 982 and drive 2 miles to the lake. Navajo Lake is Near: Durango and Pagosa Springs
